Opening post

16th April 2009

This is the Kneafsey O'Sullivan family blog. I have no idea what will end up on it but here goes.

Tho Kneafsey part of the family originates form Foxford Co Mayo. John Keafsey was a small farmer just outside Foxford. He had the usual large family and one of his sons, William became a school teacher in the village of Ballycastle in north Mayo. His eldest son, Jack was my grandfather. Jack married Kitty Gordon from Enniscrone Co Sligo and they had 6 children. My father Desmond was the second eldest. The others were Gordon, the eldest, Celine, Margaret (known as Madge) Reggie and Brendan. My parents were Desmond and Bernie (née Normoyle). I had one brother, Paul, who was killed while mountain climbing in the Rockies near Lake Louise Banff Alberta Canada. I married Christopher O'Sullivan and we had three children, Stephen, Lorraine and Sharon. Christy was descended from the O'Sullivan Beares of Beare Island Co Cork. his grandfather George was the schoolteacher on the island in the early part of the twenthieth century (circa 1903 to approx 1920. This could be inaccurate and I am open to correction).

I wonder if I will remember this url to find this post again. This is my first attempt to create a blog so heaven only knows!!!??

Michele Kneafsey O'Sullivan.

  1. Hello Michelle, I hope things are going well with you and sorry if you find this message a bit strange. My name is Sean O'Grady, you probably won't remember me. I lived in Galway until the early 1970s when I moved to the UK for work. I haven't been back there since then except for a few short holidays. I was travelling through Ireland recently in May this year and got in touch with a few old friends in Galway. On one of my previous visits there, I asked a couple of old friends about you but I couldn't get much information except that you had moved to Donnegal and were practicing medicine (and passing of your brother, so sorry to hear that). Chancing upon this blog I couldn't help wondering if you are the Michelle Kneafsey who I knew more than half a century ago!

Sorry again if you feel like I have bothered you in any way. I am leaving my email id here just in case you would like to reach out :

    sogrady265@gmail.com

And a huge apology if I have texted the wrong person. Revisiting the old hometown always has an element of time travel..will be more careful not to get caught up next time :)

    Kind regards,
    Sean O'Grady
